The Thalia Civic Club was quick to form and organize the Thalia Civic Club Volunteer Fire Department and purchased a 1951 Chevy truck to provide fire protection services in the Thalia area of Princess Anne County. The Chevrolet truck was built in November 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland and was shipped to Roanoke, Virginia to the Oren Corp to be converted into a fire truck. Oren completed the fire truck in May 1952 and it arrived at Thalia in June of that year. The photo above shows Fire Chief Kay, the Deputy Fire Chief and Junior Volunteer Fireman Mills standing in front of the fire truck in the fall of 1952.
The photo above was taken in 2007 and it shows the restored fire truck and Junior Volunteer Rodney Mills standing in a position similar to his in the original photo taken in 1952 when he was fifteen years old.
Rodney Mills was Thalia's 1st Junior Volunteer Fireman.
